HARUMI BEER BREWERY

New liquor store challenges at Harumi Flag

Harumi Flag is a condominium complex occupying around 18 hectares of land where the athletes’ village for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics once stood. Developed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and 11 private companies, it comprises 4,145 residential units and commercial facilities.

Shibataya Liquor Store opened a branch in Harumi Flag on March 1, 2024 and leverages wholesale expertise honed since 1935 to offer a wide range of products. These include craft beer from Japan and abroad, scarcely available Japanese sake brands, and wines imported directly from foreign wineries. The store is also home to Harumi Beer Brewery.

Upon entering the premises, you see a store on the left and a dining area on the right where Harumi Beer Brewery stands behind a glass wall. Customers can watch staff members brew beer at the tanks, underscoring the establishment’s “tank to table” concept.

Muted gray walls are accented by illustrations and vintage wine posters that, together with brewing devices throughout the rooms, convey the artisanal side of craft beer culture. Tables in front of the brewery made from workbenches used by furniture maker Timber Crew in Chofu, Tokyo are illuminated by three silver factory lights that contribute to an industrial atmosphere.

The liquor store on the left displays select wines from around the world on shelves that reach to the ceiling and enclose the space. Shelves are lined with Ultrasuede®️ that elegantly harmonizes diverse wine cultures ranging from classic to natural.

Behind a counter on the right near the entrance of the premises are taps from partner craft beer stores in the Kanto area. There are food menus as well, and the dining area bustles midday with customers eating lunch and drinking craft beer.

Further back, a large wall illustration by Shuntaro Takeuchi depicts brewers working from “Tank to Table”. An Ultrasuede®️ sofa neatly fills the space beneath the illustration and glows beautifully in the natural lighting from street-facing windows. Through this sofa in the dining area and shelf lining in the store, we proudly support the efforts of Harumi Flag liquor store to spread a new sake culture.
